About Grey Aspect

Grey Aspect is a growing Managed Service Provider (MSP) and cybersecurity consultancy based in the Vancouver area. We deliver comprehensive technology solutions designed to keep small and medium-sized businesses secure, productive, and operational. Our core portfolio encompasses fully managed IT services, advanced endpoint detection and response (EDR/MDR), Microsoft 365 administration, cloud migration, disaster recovery, network infrastructure management, and executive technology advisory (vCIO) services.

Unlike traditional IT vendors who focus purely on break-fix troubleshooting, Grey Aspect acts as a trusted strategic technology partner. Our initial primary target market focuses on businesses with 10 to 250 employees across Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Because Grey Aspect is expanding rapidly, this Account Executive role represents a foundational position within our company structure.

Position overview & role purpose

The Account Executive will take full ownership of Grey Aspect's outbound sales lifecycle — from initial lead generation and prospecting through business needs qualification, solution presentation, deal closure, and long-term account management.

This position is structured initially as a flexible, part-time independent contractor role, making it an exceptional fit for an ambitious salesperson, early-career sales professional, or high-performing recent graduate seeking significant professional autonomy and performance-driven earning potential. As Grey Aspect scales its client footprint, this role offers a clear trajectory to transition into a full-time position and build out the broader sales organization.

Core responsibilities & sales engine development

As our primary business development driver, your responsibilities span three core areas:

Lead generation & outreach autonomy

  • Identify and prospect target SMBs (10–250 employees) across Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
  • Execute multi-channel outbound lead generation strategies, including cold calling, personalized cold email, LinkedIn messaging, and local business outreach.
  • Attend local networking events, business association meetings, and regional chamber events to establish relationships with business owners, executives, and decision-makers.
  • Develop strategic referral partnerships with complementary professional services (e.g., commercial real estate brokers, accounting firms, legal practices, and office equipment suppliers).

Building the go-to-market sales funnel

  • Work directly with Grey Aspect leadership to establish and optimize scalable sales workflows and outbound prospecting campaigns.
  • Utilize and manage Grey Aspect's configured Twenty CRM platform to log leads, track deal pipelines, manage follow-up schedules, and maintain transparent sales activity metrics.
  • Help identify high-converting sales channels and contribute to establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) for the sales department.

Sales process & opportunity management

  • Conduct initial discovery conversations with business owners and executives to understand their operational challenges, IT pain points, compliance requirements, and cybersecurity risks.
  • Articulate Grey Aspect's core business value, demonstrating how proactive managed IT and robust cybersecurity protect revenue and enhance productivity.
  • Coordinate technical discovery calls and site assessments, bringing in Grey Aspect's internal Sales Engineer to lead technical evaluation and solution design.
  • Present commercial proposals, negotiate terms, address decision-maker objections, and successfully close new MSP agreements.

Technical collaboration & support separation

Working with the internal Sales Engineer

You are not expected to be a certified IT engineer or technical architect. Grey Aspect provides a dedicated internal Sales Engineer (a Grey Aspect employee) who supports you throughout the sales process. Whenever an opportunity requires technical environment discovery, network auditing, detailed solution design, or technical statement-of-work (SOW) generation, the Sales Engineer leads those technical aspects. Your role is to manage the business relationship, ask strategic discovery questions, identify commercial pain points, and lead the commercial closing process.

Account management vs. technical helpdesk support

Following client onboarding, you remain the primary commercial relationship owner. You will maintain executive touchpoints, identify business expansion opportunities, present technology roadmap reviews, handle contract renewals, and lead cross-selling for new projects or hardware refreshes.

Importantly, you are not responsible for daily technical support or helpdesk issues. Grey Aspect operates a dedicated technical support organization with direct support lines and ticketing channels. Clients interact with technical support for service requests, allowing you to focus exclusively on commercial relationship management and growth.

Transparent compensation & commission structure

Grey Aspect believes in total compensation transparency. This position is structured as an independent contractor relationship offering a guaranteed minimum base structure equivalent to BC minimum wage, paired with an aggressive, uncapped performance commission model.

Compensation component Structure & terms
Minimum base compensation Calculated based on BC minimum wage equivalent for all contracted hours worked, providing a guaranteed floor.
New 12-month MSP contracts 100% of the first month's contract revenue paid upfront upon contract signing and initial payment.
Additional products & services 50% of gross profit on all hardware, Microsoft 365, backup, cloud, project work, security assessments, and infrastructure upgrades.

Concrete commission examples

Example 1

Core 12-month MSP contract

  • Client contract value: $1,500 / month on a standard 12-month Managed IT Services agreement
  • Your upfront commission: $1,500 (100% of Month 1 contract revenue)
  • 3-month clawback: A 100% clawback of the initial contract commission applies if the client cancels the underlying 12-month MSP agreement within the first 3 months. The clawback applies specifically to the core MSP contract commission.
Example 2

Add-on product / service gross profit share

  • Sale: Client purchases add-on firewall hardware or project implementation
  • Grey Aspect wholesale cost: $100
  • Client sale price: $150
  • Gross profit: $50
  • Your commission (50%): $25
  • Grey Aspect retained (50%): $25

Applies to all hardware, software licensing, M365, security assessments, cloud migrations, and standalone IT projects sold outside or above the core monthly MSP contract.

Recurring & account expansion earnings

The Account Executive does not receive an automatic passive recurring commission simply for maintaining an existing active contract. However, proactive account management unlocks significant ongoing income. Account Executives earn additional commissions when they:

  • Sell additional hardware, infrastructure upgrades, or cloud migrations to existing accounts.
  • Cross-sell supplementary cybersecurity services, backup upgrades, or compliance assessments.
  • Expand user/device counts as client organizations grow.

Realistic sales growth expectations & pipeline volume

Because Grey Aspect is actively establishing its go-to-market engine, there are currently no rigid or mandatory sales quotas. Targets are structured flexibly during initial pipeline development. Realistic volume benchmarks include:

Months 1–3

1–2

New closed MSP contracts per month while refining outreach channels and building pipeline momentum.

Established pipeline

3–5

New closed MSP contracts per month as sales workflows, referral channels, and inbound touchpoints mature.

These numbers represent realistic growth expectations and volume targets rather than guaranteed sales or compensation promises. Earning potential expands continuously over time as client trust deepens, hardware refresh cycles occur, and existing customers expand their operational footprint.

Ideal candidate qualifications

Key professional profile & skills

  • Primary operating area: Metro Vancouver / Lower Mainland, British Columbia.
  • Work model: Primarily remote, combined with local client site visits, discovery meetings, and networking events across Metro Vancouver.
  • Schedule & hours: Flexible part-time structure initially, allowing you to manage prospecting schedules effectively, with a direct pathway to full-time transition as pipeline volume grows.

Long-term leadership trajectory

Grey Aspect is building for long-term expansion. The Account Executive who successfully establishes our baseline outbound engine will be uniquely positioned to take on expanded organizational responsibility. Potential future leadership avenues include:

  • Senior Account Executive / Key Account Manager
  • Sales Manager / Team Lead
  • Head of Sales / Sales Director

While specific promotions depend on company growth and individual performance, this role offers a rare chance to build something significant rather than simply execute an existing script.
